2008 multimedia installation exhibited as part of the Christina Hiett curated show: Installation 816: A Dialogue in an Urban Flux Space.
The installation consisted of a video piece that featured a static shot of a slow moving vehicle sign and an audio tangle of construction sounds recorded at various downtown Austin construction sites, City of Austin planners reading building codes from projects being built in 2008, and myself reading 2009-2010 economic forecasting information for the State of Texas from various websites.
On the ground around the television that displayed the video, I created an awkward sort of construction site as viewed from above, using materials found at construction sites.
Obstructing the view of this setup was a large section of textilene fabric , which is similar to the type of fabric that is affixed to chain link fence that is usually erected around a construction site… presumably to keep the prying eyes of the public out.
I cut the shape of the slow moving vehicle sign into the fabric and positioned the fabric to correspond with the height of the television that was displaying the video image. This cutout functioned as the visual access point for the guts of the piece.
