A narrative started in late 2011 that can be found on the streets of the city...

SYNOPSIS
Human intelligence has been outpaced by the artificial intelligence it has created. For the most part, the relationship between humans and conscious ambient technology is not a contentious one. It is most like the relationship between domesticated dogs and humans.

This superior form of intelligence has created a thorium-powered intra-environment that is ideal for engineered biological life to flourish. True Earth has begun to function like an exoskeleton for the techno-human condition. The synthetic biological infrastructural technology that is used throughout the intra-environment is significantly less harmful to the origin environment than previous human-driven iterations of technologized existence had been.

Biotechnology/nanotechnology has augmented and extended the lives of humans, but initially, access to and the ability to integrate these technologies into one’s biological makeup and one’s family’s biological makeup was extremely limited, which led to a sharp divide between elitist sensibilities and more pedestrian ones. Eventually, this divide softened, but it continues to play out socially in a sublimated fashion.

Social media’s influence on humanity has increased… one is able to access another’s sub socio-behavioral make-up without the person’s knowledge, which has led to an expanded and compulsive form of morality for a great majority of the human population. But it has also led to a more defiant and ruthless counter-culture of hackers who, using the electrical activity generated from their collective cortical neurons, disrupt the intra-environmental harmony that has been cultivated by artificial intelligence. This culture does not congregate in physical space and they delocate/de-identify in virtual space (to remain anonymous by conscious ambient artificial intelligence and humans) by inhabiting randomized modes of thought/being for various lengths of time.

I’ve recently been working on a project where I create ciphers so that I can send encrypted correspondences to various friends and acquaintances. The ciphers all use different informational contexts as source material to communicate in a scrambled fashion. The first cipher I created uses the Scarborough-Phillips Library at St. Edward’s University and has set the tone for subsequent ciphers. For that cipher, I selected 26 books from the library to correspond to the 26 letters of the English alphabet. With my ciphers, the idea is that the books, pop songs and soft copy books available on Google books will become the lexicon from which you pull words to communicate something silly or serious, in your own voice or not.
